Work in progress: Stinton Beach

Beach Home Getaway

Want to know what have we been up to lately? ATI currently has several projects that we are working on, as well as our Showcase design here in San Francisco. One of our current projects that we wanted to share is for a client who has recently begun constructing her home from the ground up, building a beautiful beach home to escape the bustle of the city. Our client has been working with an architect for the past couple of months to turn the vision for her home into a reality.

We love working with this client as she has requested that the beach home have a fun, creative design, rather than a typical home with a more square and serious feel to it. We wanted to create a warm, relaxed, and beachy atmosphere with a different feel from a city home. Three elements that we believe set this project apart from others is the natural shapes found in the furniture and architecture of the home, the unconventional pieces, and the custom, hand crafted art and furniture we have chosen for this client.

  • Natural Shapes

Gathering materials for our client presentation, we gained inspiration from organic shapes found in nature. Because this home is located on the water in Stinson Beach, we chose furniture that embodies the rugged coast of Northern California. As pictured in the photo below, we’ve chosen several pieces that do not conform to traditional styles with the tables, bench seating, and various chairs. How we chose to embody the California terrain that surrounds the home is to place pieces with exposed wood in several spaces throughout the home such as the Side Tables with square blocking, and the high back Captain’s Chairs.

Unconventional Pieces

Wanting to add a playful feature to this non-traditional beach house, we’ve added a cherry red indoor swing to the living room of the house. This adds color, interesting texture, and humor to a room, and provides a perfect way to relax and swing freely, all within the warmth and comfort of your creative home. Along with the unorthodox furniture, this swing adds a bit of fun and creativity.

  • Customization

Each home is a reflection of the person who resides in it. That is why we’ve adding custom features to this home from the art to the furniture, and structural integrity of the building. Inspired by nature, we plan to have a mural painted on concrete tile boards, adding depth and texture to the room. This artistic element will be hand painted specifically for the client. This home also features a custom built-in day bed. Made with calming natural wooden tones, and drawing natural light with a view facing the beach.

Our client has designed a full size home, with separate guest quarters, and a central living space directly facing the ocean. Because this home is being created exactly to the clients specifications, our vision for the interior was to cultivate a casual, yet sophisticated feeling with hand crafted, one of a kind pieces, light colors, and bold textures. This is embodied in light-toned tailored furniture like this cream colored sofa pictured below.

In each project, we work closely with clients to ensure that each home is designed with a highly personalized touch that combines our professional expertise with the clients vision for their home. Our client wanted elements that related to her and her husbands background. To accomplish this we chose pieces with bold designs and textures, keeping within the theme of a fun and fresh design unlike any typical home.
